Roamin' Elks is a RV club with Klamath Falls Lodge 1247

A Brief History of               KLAMATH FALLS ROAMIN’ ELKS R.V. CLUB

FROM:  ARLISS REEDER, BARBARA PEASE, CLENTON STEPHENS, PAT BOYER & BARBARA ROUFS-MASSEY

The “Klamath Falls Roamin’ Elks R.V. Club”  was founded in the year 1985.  The meetings were held in the Elks Lodge #1247, up on the hill on Hawkins Street, Klamath Falls, Oregon.  The By-laws were drawn up and submitted for approval by the B.P.O.E. #1247 on September 10th, 1987 and approved.

Some of the founding members were; Arliss and Diane Reeder, Jake and Ann Elliott, Bill and Linda Speers, Clancy and Billie Canine, Roy and Vi Ruge, Ed and Kitty White, Joe and Gloria Rodgers.  Some of the first campouts were to: “Water Wheel” on the Williamson River, Juniper Campground near Lakeview, Railroad Park near Dunsmuir, California, McCloud campground, in California, Rocky Point campground, the Medford Elks, and many others.

In 1988 the Club was given permission to construct a campgound facility on the Lodges property.  Several spaces were designated with Electricity and water.  It was used by many members and visiting guests.  Also was registered on the “Elkdom Travel Guide”.  In 1991 - 1993 the members of the club constructed a storage building and it was used for the “Parking Lot” sales each year, it was a Labor of Love.

The “Parking Lot Sales” each year sustained the clubs finances for many years.  It was a great fund raiser and a lot of fun working on the sale.  A Christmas party each year was enjoyed by all and something we all look forward to each year, either at the Lodge or a favorite restaurant.  The club for several years, while on the hill, served a full spaghetti dinner for all Lodge members, once a month, a money maker.

Some of the first members were:  Joe and Della Bellotti, Jack and Bobbie Pease, Lou and Elaine Roggensees, John and Eleanor Edgington, Glen “PeeWee” and Barbara Roufs, Charlie and Cleta Wachter, Terry and Pat Boyer, Sherman and Gerry Hanson, Dick and Lucy Wescom, Dick and Virginia Paddock, Dr. Orton and Margie Mann, Jack and Eleanor Tucker, John and Jeri Schindler, Dean and Verna Matlick, Bob and Barbara Penny, Jim and Virginia Davidge. “Baldy” and Faith Foster, Bill and Shirley Nelson, Lou and Audrey Kellison, Bertha Neece, Clee and Shirley Crawford, Charles and Ann Meyers, Clenton and Martha Stephens.

There have been many changes and new and exciting events throughout the years and especially after the fire that destroyed our lodge up on the hill in 1996.  During the years the R.V.’s have changed from mostly pull trailers and 5th wheels to now large Motorhomes and going from short distances to longer trips now. We have an enormous amount of fun and friendship in our club and find time to support the Elks and their projects and events.  Our main thrust is camping and find each year new and different campgounds to explore and join to enjoy the beauty of nature.  “HAPPY TRAILS”

A few camping memories from Pat Boyer

From a side trip from Elks Campground on the Rogue River.  “To Dogs for the Deaf”, they were very welcoming and gave a demo on how the dogs are trained.  They’re located at the foot of Table Rock.

Once when camped near Kla-Mo-Ya arrangements were made by the tribe for a tour of their facilities in Chiloquin,  They were very gracious and happy to have us.

Another time from the Elks camp on the Rogue we toured the old mill and antique shop at Eagle Point and enjoyed dinner at the Italian restaurant nearby.
